Girls Look to Defend Title

Coming into the 2011-2012 season the Hull lady Pirates look to keep the momentum from last season's Cinderella run to the state title going. It wont be easy, but despite losing a senior class which included the team leader in nearly every statistical category in Nikki Heavern (15), this years seniors look to improve individually and collectively in hopes of a return to the state tournament.

Captain Lauren Geary brings back the most on court experience of this year's captain trio, with a 56 field goal percentage from the field last season. Katie Manning and Brianna Kelly are primed for breakout years with their increased roles as team leaders both on and off the court.

Tryouts for the 2011-2012 season started last night, good luck to all the girls going out for this years team!

Fall Sports Winding Down

With the boy's football team completing their pre-Thanksgiving schedule on Friday against Carver we'll take a brief look back at all the fall sports this past season.
The boys and girls soccer teams along with girls field hockey had slow starts to the season but as Athletic Director Jim Quatromoni emphasized "the teams grew throughout the season and showed tremendous improvement as the season progressed."
While winning records did not prevail with these three sports teams, anyone who watched the respective seasons unfold can not deny the effort and improvement each team showed.

While the varsity football team is not done yet they have already put together  an impressive season despite some key injuries, in the process emphasizing the concept of team. With battles against Carver and  rival Cohasset ahead the final chapter has yet to be written on the 2011 football season.

New Banners are on the wall.

Three edited banners are now hanging from the gym walls this year.  The first is the 1000 point banner for boys' and girls' basketball.  Nicole Heavern, Class of 2011, has been added.  In fact, Nicole is now the All-time leading scorer in Hull High School Girls' Basketball history.

The next banner acknowledges the 2010-2011 Girls' Basketball State Championship.  What a great run the girls went on to bring this banner home to Hull.

Lastly, and I think most importantly, we present a new banner:  The Scholar-Athlete Banner.  This banner will recognize the team from the previous school year that has the highest percentage of student-athletes achieving honor roll during that season.  Congratulations to the 2011 Girls' Lacrosse team for being the first team honored.  The girls had 94% of the team achieve honor roll.

Go Pirates!
